Just before the Second UN Environment Assembly (UNEA2), UN Environment published the 2016 edition of its annual frontiers series on Emerging Issues of Environmental Concern.

Six issues are highlighted as key issues, including:

Climate Change: loss and damage
Crop toxicity: toxin accumulation in crops in the era of climate change
Plastic & Microplastics Pollution: Trouble in the Food Chain
Zoonotic diseases: Blurred Lines of Emergent Disease and Ecosystem Health
Financial Sector: A Linchpin to Advance Sustainable Development
Exotic Consumerism: Illegal Trade in Live Animals
